Technical Definitions
Capacitor Characteristics/Definitions
- MOTOR RUN CAPACITORS: Capacitors connected permanently to the Motor Winding and remains in circuits throughout the running period of the motor, it assists the motor to start and improves the torque under running conditions.
- METALLIZED FILM CAPACITORS: Capacitor in which electrodes consists of a metallic deposit on the dielectric film.
- SELF-HEALING CAPACITORS: Any defect that occurs in the dielectric is automatically "cleared" within microseconds and the capacitor continues to function at full efficiency.
- MOTOR-STAR CAPACITORS: Capacitors used to start Motors and remains Cut off during the running period of the motor. Capacitor assists the insertis of motor to start.
Technical Characteristics
- RATED VOLTAGE (UR): The r.m.s. value of the alternating voltage for which the capacitor has been designed It is measured in (VAC).
- RATED FREQUENCY (f): The highest frequency for which the Capacitors has been designed. It is measured in Hz.
- RATED CAPACITANCE (CR): The Capacitance value for which the capacitor has been designed. It is measured in F.
- RATED OUTPUT (QR): The reactive power derived from the rated value of Capacitance, frequency and voltage.
- RATED CURRENT (IR): The r.m.s. value of the alternative current at the rated voltage and rated frequency.
- CAPACITOR LOSSES: The active power dissipated by a Capacitor.
- TANGENT OF LOSS ANGLE (tan ): The ratio between the equivalent series resistance (e.s.r.) and the capacitive reactance at specified sinusoidal alternating voltage and frequency.
- INSULATING RESISTANCE (Rls): The insulating values of a Capacitor are stated as a Self-discharge time constant "t" in seconds.
